WATER SOFTENING SOLUTIONS

Whole-Home Hard Water Solutions Matched to Your Water

If you’re constantly wiping white scale from faucets, seeing spots on clean dishes, or scrubbing mineral buildup from showers, hard water may be the reason.

Kinetico of OKC provides whole-home water softeners for homeowners throughout Oklahoma City and Central Oklahoma. We’re family-owned and operated, with more than 20 years of water treatment industry experience.

We start with your water—not a product pitch. Our team tests your water, explains what we find, and helps you compare systems based on your actual water conditions, household demand, plumbing, and treatment goals.

Is Hard Water Affecting Your Home?

Hard water contains dissolved minerals, primarily calcium and magnesium. As water is heated or dries on a surface, those minerals can leave deposits behind.
Common signs

What Homeowners Often Notice

  • White or chalky scale around faucets and showerheads
  • Spots or cloudy residue on dishes and glassware
  • Mineral buildup on sinks, tubs, and shower doors
  • Soap scum
  • Soap or shampoo that does not lather as expected
  • Recurring buildup in water heaters, fixtures, and other water-using equipment
These symptoms can point to hardness, but they cannot tell you how hard your water is or whether something else is contributing to the problem.

That is why testing comes first.

What Does a Water Softener Do?

A water softener reduces the calcium and magnesium responsible for hard-water problems before water travels throughout your home.
What it can help with

How Water Softening Helps

  • Reduce hardness-related scale
  • Reduce mineral spotting on dishes and fixtures
  • Make kitchens and bathrooms easier to maintain
  • Improve how soaps and detergents work
  • Reduce hardness minerals entering water-using equipment
A water softener does not solve every water problem.

Chlorine, chloramine, iron, sediment, odors, and drinking water concerns can require different treatment. If your home has more than one water issue, we evaluate those concerns separately before recommending equipment.

Compare Kinetico Water Softener Options

The best system depends on what is actually in your water and what you want the system to do.
Premier XP® Combination System Q850

Water Softening Plus Whole-Home Filtration

Sometimes hard water is only part of the problem.

The Premier XP Q850 combines water softening with specialized whole-home filtration. Depending on the configuration, the filtration portion can be selected for concerns such as chlorine or chloramine.
Whether you have chlorine or chloramines in your water, the Q850 with its Chloraban media will effectively remove the substances from your water.
The Q850 also uses Premier XP technologies including non-electric operation, demand-based regeneration, multi-tank treatment, and continuous treated-water availability.

Choose based on tested water

The best-fit system depends on hardness, flow needs, plumbing conditions, and whether filtration is also needed.
Kinetico Premier XP®

Premium Non-Electric Water Softening

Premier XP is Kinetico’s premium whole-home water softening platform.

Unlike conventional systems that rely on an electric timer, Premier XP uses moving water to power normal operation and measures actual household water use to determine when regeneration is needed.
Key Premier XP features include:
Non-electric operation
Twin Alternating Tank Design
Multi-tank design
Continuous soft-water availability during regeneration
Configurations designed for higher household flow requirements
Professional calibration based on the water and household demand
Premier XP may make sense when you want advanced softening features, higher-flow options, or a system that responds directly to actual water use.
Kinetico Powerline™ PRO

Dependable Whole-Home Water Softening

Powerline PRO is designed primarily to treat hard water using a more traditional softener configuration.

It uses ion exchange to reduce calcium and magnesium before those hardness minerals travel throughout your home.
Powerline PRO may be worth considering when:
  • Hardness is your primary water concern
  • You want whole-home Kinetico water softening
  • You prefer a single tank electric design
  • Your household does not need the additional features of the Premier XP platform
Proper sizing depends on your tested hardness, water use, peak demand, plumbing, pressure, and other water conditions.

Which Kinetico Water Softener Is Right for You?

Choose based on the water problem first.
Powerline PRO

Traditional Whole-Home Softening

Consider it when your primary goal is dependable whole-home hard-water treatment in a more traditional system configuration.
Premier XP

Premium Non-Electric Softening

Consider it when hardness is the main concern and you want Kinetico’s premium non-electric, demand-operated, multi-tank softening platform.
Premier XP Q850 Combination System

Softening Plus Filtration

Consider it when testing identifies hard water plus an additional whole-home filtration concern that matches an available Q850 configuration.
More treatment is not automatically better.
The right system is the one that addresses the water conditions actually present in your home.

Why Water Testing Matters Before Choosing a Softener

You can see scale and spots, but those symptoms do not tell you the full story.
What testing helps determine

What We Need to Confirm First

  • How much hardness is present
  • Whether hardness explains what you are seeing
  • Whether iron may be involved
  • Whether chlorine or another filtration concern is present
  • Whether softening alone may be enough
  • Which system and configuration fits your household
  • How the equipment should be sized and set up
Water conditions can vary across Oklahoma City, surrounding communities, and private wells.

That is why we do not recommend a system simply because of your ZIP code.

We evaluate the water at your home.

What If Your Water Has More Than Hardness?

A hard-water problem is not always the only issue affecting your home. Additional treatment needs depend on what testing shows.
Chlorine or chloramine

Softening Is Not the Same as Filtration

A standard water softener primarily treats hardness. It should not be presented as a substitute for dedicated chlorine or chloramine filtration.
If you notice a chlorine-like taste or smell along with hard-water scale, tell us about both concerns.
Testing can help determine whether a separate filter or a combination system such as an appropriate Q850 configuration should be considered.
Iron

Staining and Deposits May Need Separate Treatment

Iron can cause reddish or orange staining, metallic tastes, discoloration, and deposits.
Some conditions involving soluble iron may be addressed alongside water softening, but significant iron problems can require dedicated filtration.
The right approach depends on the form and concentration of iron, hardness, pH, and other water chemistry.
Private well water

Well Water Can Have Multiple Conditions

Well water can vary substantially from one property to another.
A private well may have hardness along with iron, manganese, sediment, sulfur-related odors, pH concerns, or other naturally occurring minerals.
A water softener treats hardness. It should not be relied on to make microbiologically unsafe well water safe to drink.
Private-well owners should continue appropriate laboratory testing for contaminants of health concern.

How Kinetico Water Softeners Work

Ion exchange

How Hardness Is Treated

Powerline PRO, Premier XP, and the softening portion of the Q850 use ion exchange to treat hardness.
Inside the system, resin attracts calcium and magnesium as hard water passes through the treatment tank. Those hardness minerals are exchanged so softened water can continue into the home.
Eventually, the resin must be regenerated so it can continue treating incoming water.
The way that regeneration is controlled differs between system families.
Premier XP regeneration

Demand-Based Operation

Premier XP systems measure actual water consumption instead of relying only on a preset time schedule.
When enough treatment capacity has been used, the system regenerates.
That means the system can respond to real household demand rather than assuming your family uses the same amount of water every day.
Continuous soft water

Multi-Tank Water Availability

Premier XP uses a multi-tank design.
When one treatment tank regenerates, another can continue supplying treated water.
This allows regeneration to happen when needed while helping maintain soft-water availability.

Independently Evaluated Performance

Water-treatment claims are more useful when the exact product and testing standard are clear.
What to verify

Review the Exact Model and Standard

Applicable Kinetico Premier XP models have been evaluated and certified against established water-treatment standards, including NSF/ANSI Standard 44 requirements.
Kinetico also publishes Water Quality Association testing supporting specific efficiency claims for designated Premier XP models.
Certification and performance claims are model-specific.
For the Q850, applicable Premier XP softener performance certifications should also be distinguished from filtration claims. Kinetico notes that chlorine and chloramine reduction are not part of the NSF/ANSI Standard 44 softener certification itself, and certification status can differ by configuration.
We recommend reviewing the current performance documentation for the exact system being considered rather than assuming every Kinetico model or configuration has identical certifications.

Got questions?

Frequently Asked Questions About Water Softeners

How do I know if I need a water softener?

Scale around faucets, spots on dishes, soap scum, and recurring mineral deposits can indicate hard water. A water test can confirm the hardness level and help determine whether a softener is appropriate.

What is the best water softener for my home?

There is no single best system for every household. The right choice depends on your tested water conditions, household water use, flow requirements, plumbing, desired features, and whether other treatment concerns are present.

What is the difference between Powerline PRO and Premier XP?

Both are Kinetico whole-home water softeners. Powerline PRO uses a more traditional system configuration. Premier XP adds Kinetico’s premium non-electric, demand-operated, multi-tank technology and continuous soft-water availability.

What is the difference between Premier XP and the Q850?

Premier XP water softeners primarily focus on hardness. The Premier XP Q850 Combination System combines water softening with additional whole-home filtration selected for applicable concerns such as chlorine or chloramine.

Does Premier XP require electricity? you provide service after installation?

No. Premier XP uses moving water to power normal softening operation and regeneration control rather than an electrical timer.

Does Premier XP regenerate every night?

No. Premier XP measures actual household water use and regenerates according to demand.

Will Premier XP provide soft water during regeneration?

Its multi-tank design allows another tank to provide treated water while one tank regenerates, helping maintain continuous soft-water availability.

Does a water softener remove chlorine?

A standard water softener primarily addresses hardness. If chlorine is a concern, additional filtration or an appropriate combination system may be needed.

Can a water softener help with iron?

It depends on the type and concentration of iron and the overall water chemistry. Some conditions may be addressed alongside softening, while others require dedicated iron filtration.

Can these systems be used on well water?

They may be appropriate for treating hardness in private well water, but well water should be evaluated for other conditions that may require additional treatment.

How do I know what size water softener I need?

System sizing depends on factors including tested hardness, household water use, peak demand, plumbing, water pressure, and other water conditions. Bigger is not automatically better.

Where does Kinetico of OKC install water softeners?

Kinetico of OKC serves homeowners in Oklahoma City and surrounding Central Oklahoma communities.
